Titled: Duality

Image 1 was first made on a napkin at a Mexican restaurant.  As I looked over a lake the sparkling water reminded me of fairies. I sketched the fairy and took her home. Over the next couple of weeks Duality came into being. I hope you enjoy seeing the process.

Welcome to the Realm of the Mythical Beasts brought to you visually by Amie Perry-Reavis and in spoken and written word by Rhonda R Carpenter. There are many legends about dragons or (dragans in Irish Gaelic) some are friendly

and others portray the dragon as a wild-winged serpent who breaths fire. Dragons appear in myths from all cultures around the world. They are a symbol of life coming full circle and are the harbingers of death and virility. Unicorns are portrayed as proud, magical and a symbol of good luck. They represent everything pure of spirit, gentle yet fierce and are often associated with selfless acts of kindness. Unicorns are said to be solitary creatures that live alone deep in the forests of the world. Rainbows herald their coming.

There Be Dragans

Both great and small and we do not notice them at all.

With scales of green and wings gold with fiery eyes that could scorch the soul.

In a darkened sky they soar the night, simple shadows upon pin pricks of light.

Hiding in cold damp caves where they sleep and dream of olden days. When they were

not myth, or lore alone, but revered as strong and brave and bold.

It makes me sad to think them gone but do not fear there are Dragans here.

There Be Fairies!

In the dapple shadows of the forest.

Beneath the barrow stones of Erin and in the rocky crags of Scotland.

High above the rolling hills of heather and bracken.

Hidden in the misty mountains of green.

If you listen their song is as light as a spring breeze or the babbling of a brook.

Who are sweet and playful, mischievous, but rarely savage.

Dancing in the moonlight and soaring on rays of light.

Gathered around the trees and asleep beneath the ferns.

In the shade of the oak and birch and the standing stones of England.

When the leaves rustle lifting from the ground without a wind.

Whispering of magic and ancient pacts with human kind.

For the young and the old, for life and for death.

Some say fairies are myth and ledgend, but one thing is clear in Amie’s Realm of the Fey; fairies are vividly alive in brilliant colors and detailed pencil sketches. The muse for these paintings like the wee-ones she portrays is deeply spiritual for the artist. Many say they inspire awe and each one is a touching example of how the Fey live among us even today. Amie’s Oils on Canvas

Recently, Ms. Amie started sharing the process of creating one of her paintings. Over the course of several weeks friend of hers on Facebook got a real treat.
She began posting her sketches as she went along in her creation of “Duality,” one of the newest in the Oil Collection and subcategorized in The Fey Collection.

It was amazing to watch the development and sparked many of the coming projects for this website in future months. Not being an artist with more than an idea, keyboard, thesaurus and microphone; I was personally amazed at the amount of work, time and decision there is in creating an oil painting on canvas.

 She then further blew me away by sharing with me some of the things she uses other and a paint brush to create her very unique style of artwork. Some of these items included a razor blade and a toothbrush! There are more I won’t list here as Ms. Amie is considering doing some web-casts of her process. It will be great fun to tune in to see her taking a concept from idea to finished canvas.
